荷蘭位於歐洲大陸西方,是萊茵河、馬斯河、斯海爾德河出口所沖積出的三角洲,26%的國土位於海平面以下;長期對抗洪氾,也發展出傲人的水利工程技術。荷蘭面積4.15萬平方公里,全球排名138名,只比臺灣大一個「永和」的面積;但2016年荷蘭農產及食品出口總額達940億歐元,其中農產品占850億歐元,是世界上第二大農產輸出國,僅次於土地大荷蘭270倍的美國。荷蘭人均國內生產總值為48,472美元,為世界平均的2.73倍,也是「美好生活指數」工作-生活平衡狀態第一名的國家。
2017年,荷蘭全球創新指數(GII)排名第三,僅次瑞士與瑞典;根據英國《泰晤士報高等教育》特刊, 2017至2018年全球最佳大學排行榜,荷蘭國內有13所大學排名前200,其中7所擠進世界百大。今年截至10月,赴荷蘭求學的學生增加到500人,比起2001成長461%。
荷蘭是臺灣最大的投資國。根據投審會統計,荷蘭2017年投資臺灣18.95億元美金(約臺幣561.3億元),全球排名第一;而荷蘭是臺灣在歐洲的第二大貿易夥伴,雙邊貿易達到85億元美金。值得一提的是,2017年全世界拜訪荷蘭的旅客,增長最多的就是來自臺灣,比2016年增加78%,是成長第二名冰島(40%)將近一倍。
The Netherlands is located in the western part of the European Continent. Much of the country was originally formed by the estuaries of three large European rivers: the Rhine (Rijn), the Meuse (Maas) and the Scheldt (Schelde). 26% of the land is below sea level. Its long-term fight against flooding has developed world-class technologies in water management. The Netherlands covers an area of 41,500 square kilometers, ranking number 138 in the world, only bigger than Taiwan by the area of Yonghe District of New Taipei City. However, the total export value of Dutch agricultural and food products reaches €94 billion with agricultural products accounting for €85 billion, making the Netherlands the second-largest agricultural exporter after US, which is about 270 times bigger than Netherlands. The GDP per capita of the Netherlands is US$48,472, 2.73 times the world average. It is also the country with the best work-life balance on the “Better Life Index.”
In 2017, the Netherlands ranked third on the Global Innovation Index (GII), only after Switzerland and Sweden. According the Times Higher Education World University Rankings from 2017 to 2018, all the 13 universities in the Netherlands ranked top 200, and 7 of them made to the world’s top 100. As of October this year, the number of students going to study in the Netherlands from Taiwan increased to 500, an increase of 461% compared to 2001.
The Netherlands is Taiwan's largest investor. According to the statistics of the Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Netherlands invested 1.895 billion US dollars (about NT$56.13 billion) in 2017, ranked first in the world. The Netherlands is Taiwan's second largest trading partner in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching US$8.5 billion. It is worth mentioning that in 2017, the largest increase in visitors to the Netherlands in the world was from Taiwan, which was 78% more than in 2016 and nearly doubled in the second largest Iceland (40%).
